The findings from the Census included that 40% of British pet owners class their pet as their best friend, which I would definitely say is true of the relationship I have with Brody. To celebrate the age-old bond of the term: Man’s Best Friend, Petplan has explored the most popular dog breeds over time from the 1920’s fascination with the German Shepard to the recent rise in the popularity of French Bulldogs in the present day.

My Special Bond With Brody
To celebrate their campaign I will be sharing with you my #pethoodstory and the special bond that I share with Brody. I would also encourage you to share your #pethood story too!
When We First Met
Back in 2011 my husband (then boyfriend) James and I rescued Brody from a charity now called GRWE. We were matched up to Brody due to our lifestyle and dog requirements. When we first met him it was the 26th of May on an unbearably hot early summers day and to start he was named Marley (which I hoped wasn’t a sign of a mischievous dog lol if you’ve seen the film you’ll know what I mean). He was calm and collected on his lead but had some separation anxiety from his handler. At first, I thought he was huge and not what we had in mind. I remember driving home and finding it instantly comforting looking at his limber body and unruly hair wafting in the wind, smiling all the way home. Everything (as they say) has been history ever since!
How Brody Fits In The family
Both mine and James’s family are dog lovers and Brody fits right in with Cockapoo Tula, Labrador Oscar, and two Labradoodles Laya and Ted. Wary of his new family canine friends at first – by that I mean a little grumpy and moody around new dogs – when the ice was broken he is a completely different bundle of joy and a true family favourite who always stays calm and collected.
One of the best things about Brody and something we couldn’t have been more lucky with (as a rescue) is his temperament. As a lurcher crossed with an Irish Wolfhound his traits are highly matched to a greyhound: intelligent, gentle and despite his athletic build be is happy to spend all day sleeping
Our Favourite things to do together
Brody could literally snooze the day away, I am always surprised to find him fast asleep for more than 50% of the day: who knows maybe I’m jealous! 😂 I’ve tried to capture the essence of our favourite things to do together which include: cuddles, naps, lots of laughs and Brody’s favourite past times of sneaking onto our bed in the morning to snooze whilst I’m getting ready for the day and constantly pinching my slippers!
